Our Story
16th Street inspiration
Sixty years ago in Birmingham, Alabama, a tragedy of racial hatred targeting a civil rights meeting place killed four girls and injured 20 others.
Out of the devastation of loss, it is our goal to provide hope to the parents, pastors, and parishioners who believe in a brighter future.
We know that access to affordable housing is the way to help each of us to realize the American Dream. It is also one of the bases of racial inequality because it has historically divided blacks from access. In addition, real estate is a way to establish equity and helps to close the widening wealth gap.
We will not only provide quality affordable housing options, we will also work with local and national groups to ensure that people who desire access will have it in the most equitable way possible. We are currently working with city and community leaders to define and refine our projects in Birmingham.
Every city has a 16th Street
Within every city, areas of disenfranchisement exist. By targeting these areas of opportunity, we help give hope to those most in need of one of the very basics of life...shelter. Often those experiencing homelessness feel forgotten, and that their needs have been overlooked. Successfully supplying shelter to these communities is not accomplished with temporary half-measures; a solution to fit the abilities of those housed is required. We provide innovative strategies to access quality affordable housing and rent to own programs.

Equitable development is an approach for meeting the needs of underserved communities through policies and programs that reduce disparities while fostering places that are healthy and vibrant.
